Unfortunately, having Martin no longer lead them removed the party bonus he gave, making their wandering off even more strenuous than any search

fortunately, Martin found the lost Dibbuns and started searching for the wandering Dibbuns so he could give them his bonus again.

Unfortunately, even Martin is limited by his stats, and he never put any points in Investigation checks. (What game are we playing???)

Fortunately, Martin had the 6th sense character trait, which gave him a bonus to skill rolls that he was otherwise underskilled in! (Fortunately/Unfortunately! ...and now Shadow Empire  ) |

unfortunately, dibbuns, being children, are naturally chaotic, even when they are good, and they skewed all of Martin's rolls. (oh, i thought it had morphed into d&d  ) |

Fortunately, Martin still had his very super special red jade weighted D20 that came complete with glow in the dark numbers, a laquer finish, all in its own velvetine carrying pouch, for very special occasions just like this.

Unfortunately, as fancy as it looked, the D20 was weighted by a curse to only roll low numbers

fortunately, since dibbuns are so chaotic, their chaos naturally and automatically reversed the curse and made the d20 roll whatever number Martin needed!

Unfortunately, nobody likes a cheat, and the Mossflower Powers That Be, now acting as Dungeon Master, took away the weighted dice and gave Martin disadvantage on his following rolls as punishment.

fortunately, by this time Martin had found the wandering Dibbuns and was able to set them back on their reasonable quest (whatever in the dream world that had been in the first place), thus eliminating his need to roll any more dice.
