Hey guys! Sorry if I added this thread to the wrong channel, ( ) , but what is the most underrated Redwall Book that you think or everyone agrees on? I'm trying to "broaden my horizons" by reading some sadly unfortunately unpopular books (because I didn't read much both childhood and right now ) ! You can also tell me a very awesome book! I'm reading Doomwyte currently on the Redwall series! Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving (late response) and a good early Christmas.

Wow what a questions, this actually made me go back and reread the old Book Club thread to see if I could dig up any gems. And wow, I was really hard on Triss back in 2018 At least Isaiah and Barkfur tried to talk some sense into me. I guess the main question about your question is defining what it means to be underrated as a Redwall book. I tend to think that the first five-ish books ("Redwall", "Mossflower", "Mattimeo", "Mariel the Warrior", "Martin the Warrior") are the classic books, ones that are mostly about mice and seem to almost always find their way onto someone's favorites list. So if you haven't read all those, I'd recommend those five whole heartedly, because I think they are among the best. I think that the "extended universe" of books that comes after these ones is where you can get into potential underrated tales. Except for perhaps "Outcast of Redwall" and "Taggerung", which usually get talked about a lot because of their "morally grey" characters. I think of the remainder, I'd probably have to recommend "The Long Patrol" as my top underrated book. It has a very solid cast from what I remember, and I think trods different ground than some of the other books. The titular Long Patrol is actually a big organized army rather than the ten or twenty hares its sometimes portrayed as, and the Redwallers riddle quest is a bit more flavorful than usual because of how it links back to older books. A pretty fun read, or an even better listen if you can get the audiobook.

Funny story, I actually recently bought The Long Patrol. I'm on book 3 (Or part 3 ) but I didn't finish it and forgot about it. I guess I'll have to go back and finish reading it! Oh, and about Taggerung- it's about an otter raised with vermin? Always thought the cover had a weasel or some kind of mustelid. (Otters are good beasts, right?) I was always interested in a vermin son/daughter raised in Redwall, so after I finish my two other books I might as well go on to Taggerung! I'm pretty sure I read Redwall and Mossflower, I thought those two were the classics (Redwall would be the original) but at the same time I don't want too many books in my house so I might have to limit it there. Thanks for the recommendations!

Y'know, I've kinda soured on Triss since she had her book club debut (perhaps Celebes and I will switch places in the next debate??), but an instant classic to me that also came a little later in the series (I feel as though the later books are generally less loved) is Pearls of Lutra. I don't know if that counts as underrated. Maybe that's just rated... but Pearls of Lutra just feels like a quintessential Redwall book to me.

Whaaaaa, you turned around on Triss? I reread that whole debate, you defended her tooth and tail I always think that I liked Pearls of Lutra (and almost mentioned it myself), but I can't remember anything about it other that snippets of the end. Maybe that will be my next reread!
