Squelch
Ugh!
*Brookfill grimaced as her footpaw sank into a particularly soft part of the swampland. While not exactly squeamish about mud and water, the river otter didn't relish the idea of being up to her ears in dirt and muck. She only had herself to blame though, voicing no objection to Willow's suggestion of their meeting place. The other otter had seemed rather enthusiastic for a bout of sparring, and Brooky wasn't going to pass up such a good chance to keep up her training, and so it seemed like she'd have to make her peace with the environment around her, especially since a spar would probably mean she'd be getting a lot more than just her footpaws covered in grime.
Hefting her staff - a safer alternative to her usual double-bladed otter javelin - she found some purchase and managed to lift her footpaw back to the surface with a soft schloop. Finding a nearby patch of grass she began to wipe down her paw, all the while keeping her eyes and ears out for any sign of Willow. She was pretty sure she had come to the correct part of the swamp. A small clearing of trees? A rather large rock to the North? Yes, it seemed like she'd just have to wait for her sparring opponent to arrive.*
OOC: I figured this was meant to be an adult spar, since I'm not sure dibbuns would be able to make it that far out from home just for a pillow fight XD.

**Willow smiled, she had hidden in a thicket of cattails when Brookfill floundered into their designated meeting spot.she had chose this spot for it's hidden waters as a means of escape. she selected a well polished javelin and threw it. making sure it landed near brooky's feet, then jumped out of her hiding spot executing a perfect flip, her rapier point at brookfill's nose at an en-garde position**
ah! it's about time ye came matey!
OOC:just imagine that, a pair of dibbuns trekking all the way to the swamp XD Brooky: are we dere yet? Willow: i don' know

*Brooky flinched back as the javelin pierced the ground right next to her. She barely had a chance to get into a proper balanced position before she found herself nose to blade with Willow's rapier.*
ah! it's about time ye came matey!
*The otter flashed a lopsided grin at her surprise assailant.* I 'ope I didn' keep ye waitin' too long. Who picks a swamp fer a spar anyhow?
*As she spoke she took a couple of paces back, adjusting her grip on her staff and getting into a loose guard. She eyed the light blade in front of her. A rapier would mean that she would have to deal with some quick sword-work, which was not welcome given she was using a more unwieldy staff. Trying to get as firm a footing as possible in the mud, Brooky nodded in Willow's direction.*
Ready if you are. Give it yer best shot.

**Willow continued the en-garde stance, firm faced all the way. she then heard brooky say**
Ready if you are. Give it yer best shot
**Willow backed up and entered a crouch stance, looking at Brooky's staff and a good place to penetrate. she then selected the right arm, for Brooky's grip on it was loose. with the agility of a Blademaster, she leaped at Brooky and swung her sword at Brooky's right arm, she then landed a few paces behind Brooky, Then exclaimed **
G'd luck matey! you'll get there soon!

*It all happened too fast. Quick swordplay was indeed in action, and Brooky barely managed to draw herself to the side as the Rapier flashed in front of her, light glinting off the narrow blade. She felt the tip graze over her right limb, a sharp sting of pain reminding her that she should really be focusing properly when blades were involved.*
G'd luck matey! you'll get there soon!
*Brooky dabbed at the cut with her other paw, only a slight bit of blood. Evidently the lunge had been more of a taunt than a serious stab, especially considering the quip she got from the other otter. Two could play at that game though.*
Get there soon? How 'bout I get there now?!
*Hefting the staff she decided that the best defence would be a good offence, and moved in to attack with a mighty swing of the staff at Willow's midsection, hoping to knock the wind out of her opponent.*

** Willow was priming herself for her next attack when brookfill's blow came**
UMPTH!
**Willow was knocked back into the cold muddy water but she floundered back to shore. flustered, but not all dignity lost, she went for three quick jabs followed by a lunge at brooky, then moved into a defencive stance. She had no time to see if the attacks met their mark, just time to regain lost ground. though knocked back soundly, she couldn't resist a quirky remark**
yer gonna need more than that to beat me here and now matey!

*Brooky grinned to herself as her staff connected. It seemed like she was still up to scratch with her fighting. Feeling a little more confident, especially watching Willow having to drag herself back out of the swamp waters, Brooky readied herself. As Willow came back at her with a flurry of strikes, the otter managed to use her lithe flexibility to weave away from the jabs. The second one came a little close, but she didn't get pierced at all.
Seeing the lunge coming, Brooky attempted to parry it with her staff. Unfortunately, whether it was the soft ground putting her slightly off balance, or her own overconfidence, she mistimed the parry. Her reflexes barely kicked in in time for her to avoid getting properly pierced, but the rapier cut a hole in the side of her tunic as it grazed past her side.*
yer gonna need more than that to beat me here and now matey!
*Brooky stumbled back, her breathing quickened by the close call.*
Oh yeah? I'll bear that in mind then.
*Sensing the need to keep up the quick pace of the action to avoid being made into a pincushion, she lunged forward. Faking another swipe with the staff at Willow's head as a distraction, she instead used the momentum to spin around and lash out with her rudder, hoping to sweep Willow's footpaws from beneath her.*

**seeing that psychological warfare was working along with the lunge she executed, Willow flipped her rapier and prepared for another lunge followed by a jab. Unfortunately Brooky's quick comeback brought her back to reality.**
Oh yeah? I'll bear that in mind then.
**Willow saw the staff strike, barely parrying it with her rapier, the hard wood leaving a bruise on her left cheek. She also saw Brooky's Rudder strike, she blocked the Rudder strike with her rapier. Biting her lip in annoyance, she fainted a strike to the left shoulder, a quick slash to Brooky's Right hip, and finished with a series of strikes around Brooky's torso. she finished with an insult, hoping to make Brooky more agitated.**
Ah'l give ye something to lodge in that thick head of yours matey!
** Willow then lashed out with her Rapier, intending only to prove a point, not to injure. she then noticed a low hanging branch, it's supports weak, and heavy enough to knock out a good sized beast. giving out an smile, she began to slash savagely at Brooky, intending to drive her under the branch.**

*As her rudder swipe was blocked, Brooky felt herself forced back a little. The spin hadbeen a risky move, and it had not payed off this time. Trying not to leave herself exposed to retaliation, Brooky twisted back to face her opponent. The next flurry of atacks came all to quickly. She fell for the feint, and her staff and her attention were not able to keep up with the side slash that followed. Brookfill grimaced. Another light cut on her side that she'd have to tend to later, and more to come if she were not careful and got herself back on track. With this new resolve she found it easier to dodge and deflect the peppering of jabs at her body.*
Ah'l give ye something to lodge in that thick head of yours matey!
*Her eye twitched at the blatant insult. She knew what Willow was trying to achieve, but even so she couldn't help but get a little ticked off by the impertinence. She didn't have time for much of a comeback though, as her opponent seemed to redouble her efforts, and Brooky felt herself losing quite a bit of ground as she went on the defensive. As she was backing up, she could see that Willow's gaze was occasionally diverting behind her. It was a couple of seconds before Brooky realised that she must have been headed right into a trap.
Hoping that it wasn't too late for her, she sidestepped the next slice of Willow's blade. This time she swept her staff down low, hoping to succeed in knocking down her opponent this time. If she did, perhaps she could reassess the situation and use Willow's own trap against her.*

** Willow smiled as her attacks were successful. that overconfidence might have been the reason she took the downwards strike too easily. **
WHUMP
**As the staff hit her ankles, she stumbled back, landing on her rear. biting her lip in annoyance, she gripped her rapier tightly. the branch operation had to wait. as she got up to face a smirking brooky, she summed up her wounds. a few bruises was all that amounted from the spar so far. smirking heavily, she made a cut towards brooky's underside. The cut might not be enough, but it'll work for now.
OOC:and burfle, that's five posts in a spar for both of us. so we should both get that sparring badge.

OOC: Ooh, so it is! I can add that for both of us then BIC: *As Willow fell, Brooky attempted to look for whatever her goal had been. All she could see was the usual swampland muck and tree branches though. Nonetheless, the otter warrior made a note to try and avoid that area as best as she could. Willow was already getting back upright, and with a cutting blade to boot. Brooky felt the blade on her stomach. The wound was slight, but noticeable, and she flinched back. With one paw grasping for her midriff, she grasped her staff hard with the other and thrust it forward towards Willow's chest. Hopefully she would try and use her weapon's reach to keep that pesky sword at bay.*

**Willow Drew back as Brooky's staff jabbed her in the stomach, knocking the air out of her. she gripped her rapier tightly and ran towards Brooky, intending to impale her. seeing that it was pointless to impale due to the long reach of the staff, she shot forward with her other hand, trying to grip the staff, at the same time she lashed out towards Brooky's left hand, trying to make her lose her grip on the staff. biting her lip she called out an insult, continuing psychological warfare.**
Come at me matey!

*The rush by Willow surprised Brooky, as did the other otter seemingly changing tactic and going after her staff. Brooky's paws gripped the wood tighter as the miniature tug of war began, but the sudden slash of the rapier forced the otter to go single-handed, narrowly avoiding too severe a cut right across the back of her left paw, although the blade still left a neat slice.*
Come at me matey!
*She raised her eyebrow at the taunt.* Come at ye y'say? *Trying to salvage the situation at paw, Brooky put all of her strength into heaving the staff towards her, hoping to catch Willow of guard and sun her with another strike, this time a kick to her midsection.*

**As her attack on Brooky's staff proved successful, Willow was about to twirl it to disarm Brooky when two things came. the first, Brooky's quick comeback, which made Willow think that a career in insulting would be suiting for Brooky, and the second, Brooky's strong pull followed by a kick, gave Willow a black eye, but her grip on the staff remained strong. Ah well, Willow thought, Better make this a good un! . In one synchronised movement, Willow jerked her hand gripping Brooky's staff to the left, leaving Brooky's right hand as the only line of defence to total disarming. At the same time she slashed at Brooky's right hand with her rapier and using the momentum to lash out with her rudder at Brooky's right hand. She topped that off with a quick jerk back in an attempt to disarm Brooky. Biting her lip, she planted her feet in a defensive position and readyed herself for a counterattack...........**
OOC: I dug through the archives and it seems like we're DAB's longest spar so far.

*For a moment, Brooky thought that she had managed to fend off Willow's attempt at disarming. Unfortunately the other otter seemed more resilient than she had given her credit for. She had barely a moment to register that Willow had not relinquished her grip when her opponent redoubled her efforts. The sudden jerk to the side prevented her from regaining a two-pawed grip, and then the immediate assault on her remaining paw became too much. The slice and the clubbing blow of the rudder was enough to cause Brooky's claws to slip from the staff.
It was a bad situation to be in. Suddenly disarmed, and faced with a blade, if it were a fight to the death then Brooky was a far too perilous position. Luckily for her it was only a spar, and with the more friendly contest of a spar there were opporunities and practices that she could take advantage of. Hoping to catch Willow off guard with her actions, Brooky closed the distance as quickly as she could, stepping into close quarters, aiming to make it harder for Willow to use her blade, and also providing herself with good range for some close paw-to-paw fighting.
Hoping that she was quick enough not to be kept at bay with the sabre, Brooky aimed for a swift elbow to the chest.*
