Name: Isaiah. Later in life, Isaiah experiments with ideas for a second name, but nothing sticks.
Species: Field mouse.
Gender: Male.
Dibbun Weapon: As a dibbun, Isaiah favors simplicity, and uses his very own pillow for attacks that require more than just his own paws. A plain navy blue case adorns the pillow, the only decoration being the dark stains which come from months of avoiding the wash.
If a ranged weapon is required, Isaiah opts for a small sling n’ chestnuts. However, his aim never ascends beyond mediocre, as the mouse prefers to eat the chestnuts rather than launching them at his enemies.
In general, Isaiah is a headstrong dibbun with a low tolerance for long skirmishes, favoring a melee style with his pillow leading straightforward charges. This approach leads to a bruised, battered, but very satisfied dibbun.
Adult Weapon: Early on in his adult travels, Isaiah asks a shrew blacksmith he is on good terms with to forge him a customized weapon. Isaiah’s weapon is a long thrusting dagger, known as a dirk. The dirk is composed out of a sharpened steel blade and a personalized hilt. A small jade stone is attached to the bottom of a leather wrapped grip and a small silver cross guard connects the hilt to the blade. Overall, an extremely simple weapon, with only the green gem causing it to stand out.
Appearance: As a dibbun, Isaiah displays an enormous amount of nonchalance towards his outward appearance. This isn’t particularly unusual for a dibbun, but Isaiah never even seems to notice if he’s missing a sandal or if his tunic has found a way onto his head. The mouse’s scruffy chestnut brown fur is always matted in unimaginable directions with one sticky substance or another. Either Isaiah has a sweet tooth for honey, he enjoys rolling around in the mud once a week, or perhaps both. His sandy brown underbelly usually escapes the grunginess of the longer fur, but is generally just as unkempt all the same. Isaiah’s facial features are disproportionately large up through adolescence, his ears taking the brunt of the teasing.
Isaiah’s dark brown eyes, almost black at times, are the least awkward of all his features, and the subject of compliments from Elders. Being a few inches smaller than most other mice in the dorm doesn’t stop Isaiah from getting into trouble. In fact, his stature may contribute to the need to prove himself.
Over time, Isaiah’s more awkward characteristics mature, growing into a proportioned size during his late teens. By young adulthood, the mouse is fairly attractive, but ragged and unkempt as always.
Clothing choices remain relatively simple for Isaiah throughout his life. As a dibbun, he prefers sandals with the brightest tunic he can find. The mouse often wears bright saturated colors, mostly because he likes bringing attention to himself, and also because it displays the stains and dirt he’s accumulated as though they’re glorious battle wounds.
As the mouse matures, he seems to settle on the color green, wearing leafy green shirts and his favorite, a hazel tunic. The mouse starts wearing boots more often than sandals, but usually goes barefoot if possible. These choices suit his outdoor traveling life during his young adult seasons, allowing him to run fast and blend into his surroundings.
Accessories, apart from weapons, are generally a rarity for Isaiah. Bands, necklaces, or jewelry annoy Isaiah, and tend to hinder him rather than provide any sentimental or utilitarian purpose. As the mouse’s opinion on his own appearance is one of indifference, he generally keeps his outfit as plain and simple as possible. All in all, Isaiah dresses quite minimally in adulthood, contrasting with his style from his dibbun days.
Personality: Young Isaiah is paradoxically smart. The mouse can plan the perfect kitchen raid, along with escapes, solutions, and alternative routes all planned out. On the other hand, he constantly gets caught. His intelligence can’t seem to get him out of trouble, or even to convince him to stop getting into trouble. For all his smarts, the amount of chores he gets assigned as punishment is astounding. Isaiah’s love for fun is what keeps him creating mischief, for him, there is no other worthy pastime.
To say Isaiah matures would be a stretch, rather, the mouse redirects his energies. During his teens, Isaiah stops getting into so much trouble. Instead, he favors facilitating others to get into trouble, teasing and poking fun at those he has no business doing so, and generally being a nuisance. Isaiah as a teen is generally nasty to those around him, and during this phase of his life he drives away many of his friends. Isaiah eventually recognizes that he is the problem, but can’t seem to fix his habits. While he refrains from his more destructive tendencies, he starts becoming more frustrated with himself and those around him. The mouse becomes suffocated at Redwall Abbey, unable to properly get along with his peers, and unable to vent his energy into an appropriate outlet. This is a large part of the reason as to why he leaves the peaceful life of Redwall Abbey to roam Mossflower territory.
History: Isaiah is born into a small family of field mice who live on a farm not too far from Redwall. After several seasons of unyielding crops, the family move to the hospitable Abbey. At the time, Isaiah is just a few seasons old. From there, Isaiah quickly integrates with the other dibbuns, socializing and getting along with the most troublesome of dibbuns. One might say he’s popular, but there are just as many who hate him as well as like him.
As a teen, Isaiah grows restless, spending less and less time at the Abbey, and more and more time outside its walls. Initially, he never goes far, but he gradually expands the length of his hikes over time. Sometimes he travels with the Skipper or wanderers passing by the Abbey, but he is most often alone. The solitude is something that Isaiah comes to grow used to, and even enjoy.
Eventually, Isaiah leaves the Abbey, intending for it to be definite. He does this when he becomes an official adult, though still a teen in many eyes.. This is due to a combination of reasons. Isaiah still loves the Abbey, and he never stops thinking of it as home. However, the increasing tension between Isaiah and the Elders grew too much to bear. Isaiah’s fascination with Mossflower woods, and a need for an energy outlet, are two other reasons Isaiah set out to roam Mossflower woods. The mouse roams aimlessly at first, though eventually finds a Gousim tribe that he travels with for an extended period.
While Isaiah sets out to have adventures, he often shies away from anything too confrontational, foreign, or scary. Despite his bravery during his dibbun days, Isaiah, at least unconsciously, is afraid to get into any sort of real trouble. In his seasons traveling he never leaves Mossflower Woods. However, Isaiah himself likes to think that his travels help to mature him quite a bit and even help him get over his faults when he returns to the Abbey at a later date..
Isaiah’s timid adventures do not remain this way forever. After a few seasons of traveling, Isaiah is called back to the Abbey. There, he is involved in a quest that changes his outlook on life forever. He is sent along a verboten route...
Alright, that's that. I don't really have Isaiah's later life planned out, so I kinda went with a cop out at the end of his history there.
I just kinda wanted to get something down so I had at least a vague idea of what Isaiah's life and development was like. I was a bit more vague than I should have been at points, but I think of this as more of a rough outline I can fill in more at a later date. Any feedback or criticism is welcome.
