"What're you lot tryin' to DO, exactly?" sounded a voice out of nowhere-- one which belonged to none other than Roach, resident Abbey rat. He was standing near the door with a kitchen knife in hand, watching the screaming and flailing with a curious (but bordering on judgmental) look on his face. "I reckon that big chicken wasn't doin' nothin' until you started messing with it!" He'd been inside, totally unaware of it. If it had been causing problems, he would have been aware of it, wouldn't he? The only thing that had drawn him outside was all the commotion, and... no, no, nevermind. This was nothing like he'd expected. Fellow members of his community were trying to fight a giant duck. Maybe he should just go back to bed.
"You'll never win, you know! Why not jus' leave it? It'll deter intruders 'n' all that!"
Maybe Roach was biased toward the giant duck. He thought it was kind of cool-looking.

Kiki noticed the commotion from where she sat preening her always-glossy feathers on a nearby branch. She squinted, seeing an odd yellow shape on the horizon, then her beady eyes focused and she saw something horrifying. A duck, one of those doddering, awkward freaks she often saw meandering around aimlessly near the river, had suddenly gained gargantuan size.
So this is what I get for picking on them all those times...geez, Kiki thought anxiously. But she steeled her nerves, and a moment later charged, letting out a piercing battlecry. "SPARRA R STEEL 4 TEH WIN MUTTHADUCKA!!!"

The battle cry, as well as the claws pricking into his back, only caused to stir Geronimo up further. If he had any intention of simply enjoying the pond in peace, as Roach has said, it was now completely gone in favour of defending himself from the whirlwind of attacks. And what better way than to counter with an actual literal whirlwind?
Up in the air, with an otter latched onto her, Fyri regained her senses just in time to start getting dizzy as the wind picked them up and swirl, swirl, swirled them around an increasingly more vague splotch of yellow beneath them. The ducknado grew, grew and grew, reaching beyond its body and the wildcat on it, and going over to Roach and the shouting sparra. Just as Fyri thought she'd lose her lunch, she stilled.
And promptly fell down the eye of the storm.
"AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

The world seemed to fall out from beneath Celebes, as desperate to grab anything that might slow his fall he hugged the pine marten falling with him. Falling with him...that was the problem! You couldn't stop something that was falling with something else that was falling too! As a sheet of yellow passed by him on the one side, he spotted a splotch of frost breaking up the flapping feathers. There! Celebes, not willing to completely abandon his original lifeline, used one paw to try and grab for the cat that was anchored to the side of the bird. If he couldn't get her paw...then he sure would get her tail!
"HELP!!!" screamed the terrified sea otter.

Well what an eventful day it was, thought Tula, as he was disturbed from his whittling over in a corner nearby. Dark eyes stared up at the duck ado, head tilting aside before registering the cries for help within.
Quick as a flash, the tall sinewy river otter tossed aside his knife and wood, disrobing his green habit quickly so the long sleeves didn't get all caught up.
"Hold on, you silly beasts!" He called, as he dived headlong into the whirlwind of duck, aiming for the streak of white Cat fur, and the rapidly spinning of seaotter, aiming to knock them all out of the ducknado and , hopefully, into the water where the otters could swim for shore and aid the cat and pine marten to dry land, too. Not that he could exactly see the poor creature that had plummeted, but he had a good estimate from that yell.

By then the white she-cat had gone dizzy and almost delusional from the great quakes of the great Geronimo. Her head blearily glanced towards Roach. Yes, the only sensible one here it seemed. Unfortunately a bit too late to talk sense into the reckless youth, or Geronimo. What a circus this was!
A glance to the sky wishing in some way to help her freefalling friends. But what? Suddenly, all her senses returned when she felt the grab of her fluffy tail. Frost let out a wild yowling screeching caterwaul likely not heard in the old Abbey stones since the days of Queen Tsarmina. Of course, this was enough for her to immediately let go of the great bird. It did at least succeed in breaking their landing, but now what would break her fall with them?
Hooray! Tula to the rescue!
... even if it meant getting drenched again - which the feline did protest with grumbles between grateful mews as she hugged the otter. Fortunately, they were saved at least for now

Roach let out a screech as the swirling whirlwind of ducks (and beasts he knew) came rumbling toward him, yet it felt as though his legs were locked in place, and he couldn't take his eyes off it. The next thing he knew, everybeast was screaming and shouting things (not that he could pick up on any of the individual words), and a duck, separated from the tornado, came hurdling straight toward him, and knocked him flat on his belly.
For the next few seconds, he was seeing stars.
When the ringing in his ears subsided and he could catch his breath again, one thing became increasingly evident to the rat: he should've stayed inside. Lesson learned. Next time there was something insane going on in the Abbey courtyard, Roach was only going to watch from a distance.
It didn't matter HOW interesting it looked!
"Fyri?" he groaned, sitting up and rubbing his head. He cast a quick glance at Tula and Frost, who seemed like they were okay now. That's good, at least. "Celebes?"
What had become of the other two?
