**The cat’s quick reflex and prompt reaction to her feint attack was a pleasant surprise to Fyri. That had went better than she’d expected. Fyri felt a surge of pride in herself as well; perhaps she was cut out for being an officer or instructor, after all! It might not be so bad to be able to create the tales she wrote about in a more literal than literary sense. A possible option for the future perhaps.**
Hey, that’s not so bad!**Fyri grinned at her observation, tapping the wooden sword lightly with her spear.**
Aye, it isnae! I’d even call it pretty good! **She stood at ease again, staff held loosely at her side, as she contemplated what they could do next. Madeline had picked this up very fast so maybe she should try and make it more difficult. The pine marten found she was quite enjoying herself as well.** Ye want tae try again? A tad more tricky this time?

**Madeline didn't have to think twice.** "Aye, let's do that again. And make it more tricksy." **She'd called it tricksy ever since she was a Dibbun. She didn't know why.** "And then maybe I can try to sneak up on you! That way you can get some practice in." **Madeline didn't want the pine marten to miss out on the fun. The wildcat always tried to be nothing but fair.
**Madeline got back into an at ready position with her feet firm and her sword held out in front of her, and cleared her mind. Her ears were perked, twitching slightly to every sound, listening. A rogue thought that wondered if she looked anything like her mother distracted her. The young cat's brow furrowed as her anxiety spiked again. Why should she care? What had her old family ever done for her?
**These thoughts pulled her away from the present, and it took her a few moments to refocus her mind. Was it long enough for Fyri to get close?**

**Fyri grinned, pleased at the cat’s enthusiasm. It was contagious too. She hadn’t planned on being on the receiving end of this little sparring session but now the prospect to hone her own sensing ability seemed fun.** **Madeline had already taken up her position again before Fyri could reply with more than a nod so she started the next test off right away. At first, she stalked around the cat much like she had before. She glanced at her facial expression and could see it contract slightly. Hm, was she distracted? Ah, how useful it would be if a beast could simply read another’s like a poem? Or, maybe, that would be too much noise to concentrate yourself. …now she was letting her own thoughts wander. Amused at the irony, Fyri changed the weight of her paw placement, making her pawsteps nigh unhearable. She circled Madeline thus, picking up a pebble by her footpaws as she went, eyes never leaving the feline fighter.** **Missile in one paw, spear in the other, Fyri couldn’t wait much longer. Squeezing one eye close, she aligned the other behind her armed and loaded paw, and after rocking the pebble back and forth two times, she released it. It flew over Madeline’s head, missing the tip of her pointed ears by nary a whisker, and plopped down on the other side.** **The pine marten didn’t wait for the impact. When the projectile was halfway, she shot forward, attacking from Madeline’s rear, a little to the left. Let’s see how she handles this!**

**The pine marten would have done well to have waited for the rock to make impact. As it was, all Madeline noticed was the whoosh of the air as the rock travelled above her ears. However, that rogue thought had been enough to distract the wildcat while the pine marten had changed her footsteps, so she had missed where the pine marten had gotten to. **Madeline's eyes snapped open as she heard the soft cronch of Fyri 's paws on the ground as she launched herself forward. Twirling, the wildcat smacked out with her sword, trying to push the spear away, but having to change directions halfway through her swing (which is a really hard thing to do). Unprepared due to the silent question that had distracted her, the wildcat could only just barely dodge the spear as her opponent got too close...but she still had an idea of something she could do. **Releasing her sword and reaching out, Madeline tried to wrap Fyri in an embrace. The wildcat then threw herself at the ground, trying to get Fyri under her, if nothing else.** (OOC: I do hope that wasn't godmoding.... I tried really hard, but I'm also really tired. BIC)

**There had been three possible outcomes Fyri had seen lain out before her mental eye before she struck, and she’d been prepared for all three. One, the wildcat had lost concentration and Fyri’s attack would land. Two, a clanging of wood on wood would ring out as her spear was blocked by the wildcat's sword. Or three, an evasive manoeuvre as performed previously in a quick side-step to her vertical strike.**
**Whiskers plastered to her face from the momentum of her strike twitched upwards as a small grin appeared on the pine marten’s muzzle when her sparring partner made her move. Option number three it is! And that meant… her blow slowed – Fyri had been holding back, not wanting to actually injure the wildcat by accident or on purpose alike- and her muscles tensed as with a grunt of effort and a push against the butt of her spear, her attack became horizontal.**
**The sense of satisfaction left her as quickly as it had cropped up when, entirely going off script, her opponent threw her weapon aside and ducked down to the ground. Fyri had barely time to register the disappearance of her target, the swoosh of air being swiped instead, before the air in her lungs was swiped as well.**
Oof…!
**She staggered from the sudden impact to her stomach and the slight battering of paws trying get a grip around her. To catch herself, Fyri instinctively tried to secure herself somehow yet the only things available were her own weapon and the wildcat tackling her. And so, like she was being captured, the jill tried to capture the wildcat in turn by bringing down her spear behind the cat’s back in a cage of pine marten and pine spear.**
Ye’re gonnae for close combat now? **Fyri managed to gasp out as she felt her balance teetering dangerously close to being lost.**
