We did decide. The animal would be a stag, though I don't know whether it would speak normally or in an accent.

Name: Genji Satoshi Species: Tanuki (Nyctereutes procyonoides viverrinus) Specialty: Tracker lieutenant Background: One of the Red Rouge's most trustworthy lieutenants, Genji was sent on the tracking party to hunt down some woodlanders. Due to him coming from a land far to the east, Genji knows the many shortcuts and passages in the eastern mountains. As Genji's kind, the Tanukis, are peaceful warriors, Genji was the tribe's sole exception as he sold his swords to the Red Rouge. Genji's skill with the naginata is formidable, and Genji can revert to a pair of katanas if he needs it. As a final resort, Genji can use his arsenal of shurikens and throwing darts, but he prefers to use the longer naginata. With his exotic fighting style and intelligence (Satoshi means quick-witted in the tanuki tongue), Genji is ready to take brutal measures to achieve his goal.

Isaiah Isaiah Yeah, we had talked a bit about the beast being a deer in the Free thread, it seemed like a good noble forest creature. Sound decent enough? He even comes with a built-in predator, wolf, if the need arises. Barkfur Genji huh? Looks like an interesting character! Especially if we can hook him somehow into the Eastern lands that the party is slated to be headed. I honestly thought Tanuki were just from Super Mario 3 . I'm going to have to wait a moment to slate him in as the lieutenant, as Isaiah had expressed interest in that role first. If Isaiah were to give up the spot, Genji would make an awesome addition, but if not are you still willing to have him be a normal tracker?

Of course. If Genji doesn't make the cut as lieutenant, I'll be willing to put him down as spearbeast (though I'm not sure if a naginata counts as a spear.).

Profile time Name: Lt. Augustus "August" Bryant Species: Hare Specialty: Diplomat Background: When rumors of the Red Rogue's movements reached Salamandastron, August was dispatched to Redwall with a warning by Badger Lady Ameline Forgesinger. In an unfortunate coincidence, the Long Patrol was engaged in extended combat with an alliance of corsairs, and no other fighters could be spared. With the abbey preparing for a potential assault and knowing that little if any aid was forthcoming from Salamandastron, it was determined that August's skills in combat and communication would be of best use in the party seeking the Great Beasts of Old. As a regular liaison between Salamandastron and the surrounding area, August falls naturally into a role centered on diplomacy. He may remember vague rumblings of a defector from his days as a fresh Long Patrol recruit, but one Horace Brayer McLarkin was long gone by the time August was anybeast worth noting. Hope you'll forgive a couple plot/arbitrary NPC naming liberties I took there -- I'm certainly open to other suggestions if this doesn't fit with the plan. Mainly I was looking for a way that wasn't too forced to prevent August just from haring it back to Salamandastron to get reinforcements.

I think it works well, Aqua, and it has the vague echos of that relief quest from seasons of yore. The perfect storm of a double invasion! It will be interesting to see how the lieutenant reacts towards his meeting with the defector. In other news, I was looking to getting this quest kicked off with an opening post this coming Friday (the 22nd) if there weren't any objections. I think that we have a good enough foundation for the first scene, the campfire double ambush, and it would be helpful for future planning to see how that drama evolves. I for one and am eager to get this adventure started!

True to the form of Burfle I am submitting a profile at the last minute XD
Name:Brookfill Streamdog Species:River otter Speciality:Diplomat Background:News travels fast, and reports of the approach of a large warband lead by a figure named the Red Rogue had raced their way northwards. Upon hearing the news, Brooky began to worry for her old home of Redwall, which in its history had so often lain in the sights of vermin conquerors as a prize amongst the woodland landscape. Convincing her husband to come with her, the two set out from their tribe to head down southwards to visit the abbey. On their journey, they heard updates on the progress of the Red Rogue from passing travellers, and by the time they had reached Redwall itself there was already full discussion about what the abbey must do to protect itself. When the call for volunteers went out, Brooky signed herself up straight away. As part of her new tribe up in the north, she had taken on a role as a messenger and go-between to other groups and tribes in the area.

Name: Raina Syenoa Species: Red Fox Specialty: Tracker Lieutenant (or whatever) Background: A newcomer to the Red Rogue's horde, this vixen proved her ruthlessness by slaying half a score of elite soldiers in their sleep. Wielding just a dagger and a quiet authority, Raina has risen in ranks very quickly, much to the chagrin of those beneath her. Still, she commands respect even from those above her in rank. With a mind equal parts for strategy and blood lust, the Red Rogue's only fear is that her role in the horde won't satisfy her forever. For now, a leash is maintained on her, and she fulfills her role as an elite paw-picked mercenary.

Alright, we got out wham-BAM intro started. How do we want to continue it? I was thinking that the mutual goal of the struggle between the sides would be to try and take a prisoner. Perhaps the Redwallers can grab one of the fellows that was knocked unconscious? We could help establish the vermin as a better sort of band by having them mount a rescue of their comrade.
I think that it might be better if our band stayed in camp until the close of the scene, perhaps the ambush was meant to be more of a probe of our defenses rather than a full frontal assault? It would help facilitate the interrogation with the prisoner.

So as far as a potential interrogation, I think it might be better for flow if we all have control of the rat's responses should we choose to get him to talk, as long as we keep him consistent. Perhaps after a few posts of our heroes not getting much information out of him other than he works with McLarkin, we could switch to the villain roles and mount a lightening rescue? I think the would be a good spot to close out this scene.

Yeah, I think we can jump forward to the next scene 1-3 days later. Perhaps that is when we have them run into a "friendly" group of woodlanders? Or maybe a different obstacle, like a particularly technical climb.
