Because of the site rollback, many old posts are missing, including some from Urban Explorers. We've salvaged what we can and I've posted each one as it's own post below, with the username of the person who posted it above. Hopefully there's enough context here to not be too jarring to start back up again.

*Lieutenant Augustus Bryant, Salamandastron Long Patrol, held in a yawn. Midnight watch could do that to a creature, messing with the sleep schedule and all that. Normally he'd compensate by sleeping until the end of the dawn watch, but he'd woken early that morning to the scent of impending rain and a slight chill in the air. Bomboar, too, had been up early and had suggested looping back a short way to keep an eye out, just in case. Nothing like an early morning scouting run to get the blood pumping, or so they'd said back when he was Runner. August knew from experience that there was truth to it, though, and that was how he found himself standing in the woods with Bomboar, who was idly spinning his quarterstaff from paw to paw while Haru flew up to scout out some shelter from the oncoming storm.
Before long, the falcon swooped down to report a cave within short walking distance. August glanced in the direction Haru had indicated. They ought to get going before the storm hit. He turned to see Bomboar looking at him, presumably for instruction. August nodded once, decision made.*
Tell you what, howzabout you follow our falcon friend over to this cave of his and see if y' can't round up anybeast who's still out searchin' on the way. In the meantime, I'll pop on over to camp and tell the rest, and with any luck we'll all be snug 'n' dry b'fore the rain starts, wot!
*Plan established, August left his companions to handle their part and made his way back in direction they'd come from. The camp was all but empty—it seemed more of their party was out searching for shelter than had stayed to hear when it was found. Not the most efficient method, but they were young adventurers, not a trained military squad. Efficiency wasn't the point, and what they lacked there they made up in enthusiasm.
Jasmine was seated on the fallen log where they'd made camp, poring over the map she'd requisitioned from the library back at the abbey. August recognized the look on her face, largely from the number of times he'd worn it himself. Look confident enough and maybe your companions—and you yourself—will think you actually are. It might just be the rain, but the way she was clutching the map and compass said it might be a little bit more. August seated himself next to Jasmine, clapping her lightly on the shoulder just as the rain started to drip. Well, bother. So much for beating it to shelter.*
Steady on there, young Jasmine. Bit of a dreary morning, wot?

Bomboar nodded and went with Haru in the direct route while August took the route to the camp. He whistled on the way, hoping some would hear him. He looked up at a squirrel, and pointed with his quarterstaff in the direction of the cave. The rain didn't faze him, he was an otter and loved getting wet. August had taught him much in the ways of the Long Patrol. He was worried about Haru, but the falcon seemed to be holding his own. He flew here and there, summoning the scattered crew and pointing them in the right direction.
"Oooh, this is refreshin'" he said. He would have to explore the cave to make sure there weren't other inhabitants. He was on his guard as the cave came into view. "Whump! Whump! Whump!" he called out and charged into the cave, quarterstaff whirling.

**A steady drizzle broke over the forest, spraying tiny drops onto anything that lacked a solid roof. Some of these raindrops hit obstacles on their way down to earth, such as the tree leaves which collected much of the trickle at once and combined it into a great big drip on their underside. One such drip, chilled by the high morning air, hit Dewbelle square on the nose, startling her so bad that she almost lost her clawhold on a treelimb she was hanging from. Quickly getting on top of the lateral bough so that she had something between her and a nasty fall, she looked vengefully up at the dreary sky.**
I ain't seeing much around. Can y'catch sight of anything?
**Burfle was several trees away, gazing about his own sector of the woods. Funny how a series of different turns at various branch junctures could get two squirrels starting close to each other so far away.**
Nah, just a bunch of wooden lightning rods that'll give about as much rain cover as your ear tufts.
**After issuing her response, Dewy debated whether to continue up the tree she was on, or to cross laterally to the nearby beech. Normally her decisiveness bordered on rashness, but the thought of getting thunderstruck brought a bit more caution to her movements. Deciding that the forest wasn't terribly dense, at that she would be able to see further on if she scaled higher up, Dewbelle returned from the outstretched limb to the main trunk.
A cry, issued from Haru, split the damp air. Dewbelle craned her neck upward, and then down to try and spot the falcon. He was not long in finding, and Dewy heeded to his notice that shelter had been found. The desire to get out of the rain kept her from being too vexed over the fact that it wasn't her who had found refuge first. After all, who didn't like the praise the finder always got?
Leaving Haru to repeat the message to Burfle, the squirrelmaid rejoined those on the ground who were gathering into Lily's cave. Hastily issuing her report, she ducked into the enterance of the cavern before Bomboar had even finished clearing it. She'd fight whatever beast was in here if she could be dry doing it.**
We ain't seen anything dryer than this around here, just a bunch of soggy leaves and loam.

**Lily's words were snatched away as a gust of wind nearly caused the field mouse to lose her balance. Stumbling backwards a few steps, her paws sought out the trunk of a nearby oak tree, her nails digging into the damp bark for stability. A strained grimace formed beneath the hood of her coat, her vision impaired by the sheets of rain. Had anyone heard her call?**
Lily's found somethin'! This way!
**An unidentifiable voice cut through the white noise, much to Lily's relief. Mouthing a silent thanks, Lily braced herself once again and relinquished her hold on the oak tree, trudging closer to the cave. Upon closer look at the opening, an ominous air emanated from it. The cavern gave way to a pitch black darkness twenty or so paces in, making it impossible to infer how large the confines might be, or what contents it may hold.**
You think it's safe and dry enough?
**What was visible of it certainly looked dry enough. A ledge jutted out just above the opening, offering a fair amount of cover, aided by wind seemingly blowing in the opposite direction. Is it safe? Lily took a tentative step forward, green eyes straining to make out anything notable in the darkness. The ominous sensation was hard to shake from her mind, and Lily walked no further, keeping a fair distance from the opening and allowing her fur to soak thoroughly. Lily raised a clenched fist to show she'd heard Riverstream's question, and beckoned the otter to join her. Shouting seemed unwise... just in case.
The cave captured Lily's gaze entirely. She was curious, but it wasn't the most intelligent course of action to head in there alone. Besides, she was in no position to be making executive decisions for the party. The promise of shelter was tantalizing, but strange things often lurked in caves, best to take things slow.**
Whump! Whump! Whump!
**Wide-eyed, Lily watched as a brash otter sprinted into the opening, twirling his quarterstaff offensively. Well, that is one way to clear a cave... She had hoped to confer with the entire party before entering, but any element of stealth they may have had was gone now. Lily followed Bomboar at a slower pace, stopping just outside the cave entrance. Though ready to give backup if the otter needed it, she was reluctant to enter before the full party had arrived.
Leaning against a boulder with the protective ledge overhanging her, Lily began searching for an item in her backpack.**
We ain't seen anything dryer than this around here, just a bunch of soggy leaves and loam.
That's unfortunate. This place may have potential...
**Though she couldn't help but wonder if she was just being overly cautious, Lily could not shake her mind from the unknown variable this cave presented. I hope it's all in my head. Huddled against the boulder as she was, Lily wrapped a bandage around the end of a dead bough she'd found in the entrance. With fluid, practiced movements, Lily proceeded to open her tinderbox and strike sparks against the end of the dry branch. Though the winds made it difficult, before too long Lily had successfully created a flaring torch.
Taking a deep breath, Lily turned and entered the cave, holding the torch in front of her.**
Bomboar? You... you find anything?

Jasmine
Righty-o Jaz, we'll find something nice and dry.
"I know you will!" Jasmine gave a pleased nod watching the group disperse, before returning to the task at hand. Perhaps it was fortunate that the majority of the camp was out scouting. Now, with only Torry and the handful remaining at camp, she could finally let out a long and heavy sigh. A moment of respite for her thoughts to pace.
She gave the abbot and all those at Redwall her sworn promise. The welfare and responsibility of the group were in her paws. While she gladly accepted this privilege and held confidence in herself to see them through to their destination and back home safely - it seemed when pushing the limits, the limits tended to push back.
But there was hope yet. This could be remedied. They could get back on track. They were a strong group. And just as much as they had trust in their leader, Jasmine trusted her team of explorers.
Steady on there, young Jasmine. Bit of a dreary morning, wot?
Jasmine straightened feeling the clap of Lieutenant August’s paw on her shoulder. Almost instantly she brightened somewhat. “Lieutenant!” She returned a smile - though, her concern lingered.
“Indeed, sir. Quite so.” Noticing the rain start to break way and a raindrop splatter on the map, she swiftly rolled it up and put it away to the safekeeping of her knapsack. She looked towards the camp - but smiled seeing they were already packing what remained of the camp, before fully looking up at Augustus, “I’m simply… wondering why we’re still in the thicket of Mossflower when by now we should have reached the Southern Cliffs…?"
Lily's found somethin'! This way!
Her ears perked up hearing Riana’s voices. After saluting to the lieutenant, without another second’s hesitation she sprung to her feet to rally those remaining at camp to now rejoin the group.
“Alright then! Let’s hightail out of here!”
Scurrying over to Torry, she extended her paw to help him up. “Come on, friend. We best get to some drier ground. While I don’t mind a drizzle, we wouldn’t want to let the supplies get rained on and risk dampening lunch, now, would we?"
Heading in the direction of the group’s finding, she glanced at her compass which was still clenched in her paw the entire time. Due east. At least that seemed to be some progress, hopefully. Reaching the group she was more than impressed at the discovery - a cave!
"Excellent work, Lily! By the fur, you all are phenomenal scouts!”
The fieldmouse stared at the entrance carefully. Checking for any signs if they weren't the only ones to discover this cave. She did notice a few distinct scratch mark along the cave’s rim, however. But whether these were left by friend or foe and just how long ago was undetermined.
"I say we see what’s inside. With the rain outside turning into a worse storm by the moment, we’ll be better off in here. If we can get another one of those torches, we can even see if anything further lies within this cave.”
The uncertainty of their map coordinates now temporarily at bay, so returned the spark of adventure full blazing in Jasmine’s eyes. She was ready to walk head-first into this, fully braced for whatever they could encounter.
“Into the unknown - now this, friends, is where the real adventure begins.”

Lieutenant!
*Jasmine sat up straighter and shot August a smile, which he took as a good sign, although the undercurrent of worry was still there. He returned the smile -- he'd insisted on more than one occasion that the young fieldmouse could call him by his given name, but she continued to address him as lieutenant or sir as if she were one of the young hares under his command. He watched her roll up the map as the rain began in earnest. She glanced around the camp, finally meeting his eyes.* I'm simply… wondering why we're still in the thicket of Mossflower when by now we should have reached the Southern Cliffs…?
*A worthwhile question. By August's own calculations (which, in the interest of fairness, were little more than an educated guess, since he hadn't patrolled this far south and hadn't looked closely at the map since leaving Redwall), they ought to be at the very least at the edge of the wood, given the pace they'd been setting. Although, he suspected this was less a question of pace and more a question of direction.
Another voice came through the rain before he could reply. It seemed their other companions had located the cave Haru had spotted. Jasmine threw him a salute. He returned it, smiling inwardly as she darted off to get Torry on his footpaws and then zipped away in the direction of Riana's voice. Energetic, that one. August stood, rolling his shoulders back in a stretch before slinging his pack over them and adjusting the straps. The camp was packed up entirely, leaving the hare with their young cook in an empty clearing.*
Right then, young master Torry. I don't know about you, but I'd rather get out of this bally shower sooner than later, wot?

Bomboar
**After making sure that the cave was unoccupied, Bomboar stuck his head out of the cave.** Well, the cave is free. You'uns better come in out o' the rain. **He whistled for Haru who flew in with him. He didn't know much about Torry either, but there were few which he didn't like if any. He saw August there as well as the rest. He bowed and would play the host as he twirled his quarterstaff.

**Patting down her cloak, Dewbelle stood in the cave for a moment assessing how her clothes were holding up. When she had left the Abbey, she had gone over her cloak with oil cloth, which worked quite well for creating a temporary waterproof shield. It It had seemed adequate at the time, and was certainly less smelly and unsightly than the more permanent oil skin outerwear that the seafaring folk liked to don. But as her damp arms could now attest to, her cloak was already becoming less water repellent. It was going to be a soggy journey home. Perhaps she should have invested in an umbrella instead, but seeing herself with her mind's eye sitting in a tree huddling under said parasol made her snort out an audible chuckle.
Getting over herself, Dewbelle looked up when she heard some chatter coming from the entrance where Riana, Lily, and now Jasmine stood. Their faces radiated in the warm light of Lily's new torch, the curtain of rain behind them creating quite the homely scene.**
I say we see what’s inside. With the rain outside turning into a worse storm by the moment, we’ll be better off in here. If we can get another one of those torches, we can even see if anything further lies within this cave. Into the unknown - now this, friends, is where the real adventure begins.
**Dewbelle wasn't entirely taken in by her friend's spirited suggestion. Not that Dewy wasn't curious about underground world (though she did get a tad queasy in tight places), but it also wasn't the point of their expedition, either. She had already written this morning off as lost travel time, but what if they go down into this cave and lose track of the day? They had no idea how big it was. She had heard moles speak of caves that were big enough to hold the entirety of Redwall several times over. They could end up crawling out of this hole long after the storm had ended, and they would have lost a day of travel. If they got out at all. It was little side trips like this that would eat up their supplies long before they reached the end of their quest. The squirrelmaid had hoped to end her quest somewhere up high, not down in the lower bowels of the earth. Raising her paw as if to show her intention to speak, she immediately began without being called upon.**
I think we should leave a couple lookouts up here to wait out the storm, Jaz. That way we can get going as soon as this all lets up. I'd be happy to keep watch.
**Dewy had felt obligated to volunteer since she had made the suggestion. The idea for a second lookout was made in the interest of staying awake, though it didn't hurt having a second beast around if some other travelers of more spurious intent also came to this cave seeking shelter. Bomboar had cleared the entrance of the cave, yes, but who knew who or what else would come along in this storm. Also, she felt that if she had volunteered alone, it would just look like she was using the potential post as an excuse to get out of going down into a dark and scary cave. Which was only partly true.**

Torry
Torry took a few moments of being sleepy/groggy, before realizing the rest of the group was running off! He shook the cobwebs out as best he could, even with rain hitting him more frequently, quickly gathered up the supplies he'd brought along, and began to sprint off for the others.
Didn't take long before he made it into the cave with the rest, already huffing and puffing like he'd just ran a marathon. Slumping down against the wall of the cave with a groan; it was going to take him a bit before he was ready to go again...

Burfle
*Haru had swept over to Burfle and reported the cave finding as well, before winging back to the others. However, unlike Dewbelle, Burfle took a moment more to just stand and look. While the view was nice, his personal pleasure wasn't the only reason he remained aloft. The treetops stretched for a rather significant distance still, so still no sign of any of the landmarks that had been discussed back when they had been planning the excursion in the comfort of the Abbey. As the rain grew stronger, and the tree branches began to sway in the increasing winds, Burfle decided that it would be best to get back down to ground. As he turned to begin the descent, a flash out of the corner of his eye startled him, he froze for a couple of seconds and then the ensuing rumble of thunder cause him to grimace. As Dewbelle had said before, up a tree was no place to be when lightning was striking.
With a little more haste, Burfle wound his way down the tree and back to the former campsite, stopping only to pick up what equipment of his own he had left there. Up ahead he could see the slightly rotund figure of Torry running off, cutting a slightly comical sight. Evidently the cook wasn't too fond of getting a rain bath either. Still at the edge of the camp, the Lieutenant stood by, obviously he was keeping to his self-imposed duties and ensuring that no beast would get left behind. As a reward for his service Burfle clapped the hare on the back as he passed, tipping him a cheeky wink and an informal salute as a bonus.*
Bringing up the rear Lieutenant? Best get those old paws moving lest ye want to get that uniform ruined.
*With a little chuckle to himself, the squirrel continued on towards the others. Breaking through the last of the undergrowth, he spotted the reported cave, with Jasmine, Lily and Riana gathered around a torch at the entrance. A little further in, he could see Dewbelle patting herself down, Bomboar and Haru nearby, and Torry leaning up against the wall obviously winded from his run. Burfle halted by the trio at the mouth, sending a nod Jasmine's way as a non-verbal report of his return, and then passed on into the shelter. He spared a glance around, although there wasn't much to see by the light available to them. The rocky entrance was rather bare, but he could see that it extended out into darkness at the back. Now that would be interesting to explore.*
I say we see what’s inside. With the rain outside turning into a worse storm by the moment, we’ll be better off in here. If we can get another one of those torches, we can even see if anything further lies within this cave. Into the unknown - now this, friends, is where the real adventure begins.
*It seemed like Jasmine shared his thoughts on the matter. Even if it wasn't their intended expedition, who knew what they could find there?*
I think we should leave a couple lookouts up here to wait out the storm, Jaz. That way we can get going as soon as this all lets up. I'd be happy to keep watch.
*Burfle shot a look at Dewbelle standing next to him, her paw raised almost as if she were back in the abbeyschool. He couldn't help but snort a little at her suggestion. The rain wasn't going to be letting up for a while, or at least he was pretty sure it wouldn't, not with the way the skyfront had looked from up in the tree. It seemed to him more like the squirrelmaid was trying to duck out of a juicy opportunity for cave exploration than anything else. He was the complete opposite on that front, ever more intrigued by what lay in the deeper depths of the underground as the seconds passed. He brushed past Dewy, calling out over his shoulder as he made his way further in to the shadows of the cave.*
Sounds t'me like we've got somebeast here who's afraid of the dark scary cave. C'mon Dewy, we're meant to be exploring! Besides, it's not like the rain's gonna stop anytime soon.
*He kept forging on, despite the fact that his eyes were still having to adjust to the dark. Unfortunately for him, bravado and snide remarks do not save a beast from a stubbed toe, as a rather unfortunately placed rock decided to teach him. With an undignified yelp he toppled against the hard wall, just catching himself from a sharp bump to the head. Pushing himself upright and trying to shake off the pain in his footpaw he called out to the others.*
Oi! Any chance we can get another torch down here?

Excellent work, Lily! By the fur, you all are phenomenal scouts!
**Lily instantly recalled falling face first into the dirt during her 'phenomenal scouting', but decided not to contest the compliment.
Holding her flickering torch to the cave walls, the interior of what seemed to be a hollowed out hill was revealed. After a few steps, the cavity began to transition from packed earth to solid stone, the open space growing even more as the floor slanted downwards. By the meager torchlight available, it was impossible to make out any sort of end to the passage. Continuing forward at a deliberate pace, Lily gasped as a form emerged from the darkness, running back towards the cave entrance. Her paw immediately reached for the bow slung across her back, but relaxed as the figure came into light. It was Bomboar, returning with his staff to report a safe entrance. Well, that's something I suppose.**
I say we see what’s inside. With the rain outside turning into a worse storm by the moment, we’ll be better off in here. If we can get another one of those torches, we can even see if anything further lies within this cave. Into the unknown - now this, friends, is where the real adventure begins.
**Jasmine was a natural leader, Lily thought. Somehow, she'd spun a dreary day stuck in a cave into an exciting adventure. Quite charismatic. Despite Jasmine's upbeat take on the situation, there was still something about the cave that caused the fur on Lily's neck to stand on end. Squinting through the darkness, Lily could make out the cave continue downwards at a gradual pace, giving no hints to its destination or contents. It was odd. Though everything about being underground seemed wrong to her, Lily couldn't help but be curious, taking one timid step after another into the winding cave.**
Oi! Any chance we can get another torch down here?
I've got supplies... *Lily murmured as she continued on, almost zoning out completely as the darkness enraptured her. Then, something in the topography of the cave changed, and Lily stopped in her tracks, breaking out of her trance.*
I-I've got supplies for torches over here. I just need something dry to light.
**Waving the torch in front of her, Lily tried to shed as much light on the features she'd just discovered as she could. The extra movement of flames only served to confirm her suspicions.**
Also... The cave, it forks off into two different directions up here...

*With Torry headed away from the camp, the clearing was deserted but for August, a few bits of equipment, and the cold remains of the campfire. Just as he was starting to wonder which of their companions had left their things behind, another squirrel popped back into the camp and collected the remaining items. Burfle, the walking definition of a young rip if August had ever seen one, stopped just long enough to give the hare a solid clap on the back.*
Bringing up the rear Lieutenant? Best get those old paws moving lest ye want to get that uniform ruined.
*August chucked along with him.* Takes more 'n a little drizzle t' ruin a Long Patrol uniform, doncha know. I'd be more worried about that big brushtail o' yours if I were you. Wouldn't want t' find you with it stuck in some great mud puddle 'n' have t' dig you out. Now that might ruin the old uniform, wot!
*The others had gathered in the entrance of the cave by the time they arrived. August gave the group a quick scan by force of habit. Everybeast present and accounted for. Jasmine's little speech seemed to rouse most of the party, although he noted a few skeptical expressions. Well, fair enough. There were always a few dissenters. August didn't have much of an opinion either way himself. This group had a good number of energetic members, and he suspected they'd rather do something like explore a convenient cave than sit around waiting for the storm to pass.
Lily's torchlight flicked across the two passages she'd just pointed out. August made his way toward the fork where Dewbelle stood near the mouse. He elected not to respond to the squirrelmaid's comments for the time being. Instead, he listened for a moment. Caves weren't anything to worry about if you knew them well, and though this particular one was a mystery, he'd spent most of his life in one cave or another at Salamandastron. Ah, there. One of the hare's long ears twitched.*
Don't know that it goes on all that far, actually, 'least not this way. *He nodded toward the rightmost passage.* There's a bit of a draft, feel it? Could be it opens up further down the hillside. 'Course, could be a ways b'fore then too. Hard t' say in unfamiliar territory, wot!

Sounds t'me like we've got somebeast here who's afraid of the dark scary cave. C'mon Dewy, we're meant to be exploring! Besides, it's not like the rain's gonna stop anytime soon.
**A humorless smirk played upon Dewbelle's lips at Burfle correctly deduced her nerves, or lack thereof, but didn't have a retort ready to respond with before the other squirrel went and stumbled. Heh. Squirrels should be up in trees, and leave the suffocating darkness to the moles. A flare of light sparked into life beside her. Turning to observe, Dewy realized that Lily was being much more helpful than she was at the moment, and resolved to get back to being a team player.**
Also... The cave, it forks off into two different directions up here...
**Dewbelle peered down the caverns in question. It was difficult to see by the undirected light, it was a shame that didn't have a proper lantern. Her ears flicked as she sensed the presesnce of August joining them at the junction, but kept her eyes on the potential routes ahead.**
Don't know that it goes on all that far, actually, 'least not this way. There's a bit of a draft, feel it? Could be it opens up further down the hillside. 'Course, could be a ways b'fore then too. Hard t' say in unfamiliar territory, wot!
I'd say so Lieutenant. Look at the way Lily's torch flickers. The air can't be all the way still in here, right?
**The comment was a much to comfort herself as it was to agree with August. This cave couldn't be too large if they could feel a second draft from here? It was becoming clear by the energy she was feeling from those around her that if she wanted to stay back, she would be doing it alone. Not that solitude bothered her terribly, she actually enjoyed the odd bit of seclusion up in an alder now and then. But a dimly lit wet cave entrance didn't sound near as inviting. She wanted to believe there was another way out ahead. It would help her move forward with her friends. As long as they chose the right path, of course.
Putting best footpaw forward, she made her way up to where Burfle had gone galivanting.**
Well, if we're goin' to go I say we better start goin' down the one that has something to go to. Bring up the light Lily before Burfle stubs his other paw.

**The one that they called Willow Pikeclaw was in a strange position. she had been fishing for cave shrimp in a rock pool near her den not that far from the exit of the cave and then she heard the voices. They sounded like they came from three squirrels, two field mice,a hare,a hawk, and an otter. she listened closer and heard the squirrel say,**
I'd say so Lieutenant. Look at the way Lily's torch flickers. The air can't be all the way still in here, right?
**Willow thought that the party might be lost and thought what to say once she met up with them. After all, the last time she heard something in the catacombs, it turned out to be a group of vermin. she thought about the young squirrel that passed a season back, the one in the northlands outfit and He turned out to be okay. Picking up her sling and stones,a rapier crafted in the south, a lit torch covered in pine resin and the rewards of her cave shrimp fishing expedition, she headed toward the voices which were quite near now, with the addition of a squirrel saying,**
Well, if we're goin' to go I say we better start goin' down the one that has something to go to. Bring up the light Lily before Burfle stubs his other paw.
**Mustering up all the courage that was in her, Willow headed towards the voice, without a care that she would forget the way to the exit. After all, she knew this cave like the back of her paw. After a left and three rights, she instantly ran into the party. glancing at everybody to make sure that they were not vermin, she asked them,**
You need some help getting to a decent shelter and tucker? If so you have Willow Pikeclaw at your service.
